Import too large

Fix an upload or paste that the website refuses because it is over the size limit.

Use this page when the companion app or the import page tells you an export is too large. This mostly affects players with a long history in the PvP or world addons, or an old version of the app.

The limits

  • A single upload to the website cannot be larger than about 4.5 MB as sent.
  • An export cannot be larger than 8 MB once unpacked.

The companion app compresses what it sends from version 0.2.11 onwards. A saved file shrinks to roughly a tenth of its size, so almost every export fits. Older versions of the app, and the paste box on the import page, send the export uncompressed.

The app says the export is too large

Message in the Activity list: “upload failed — this export is too large for the site to take”

An app older than 0.2.11 may show no error at all for an oversized file, while nothing new reaches the website. If a large history is missing from the site and your app is out of date, treat it as this problem.

Most likely cause: You are running an app older than 0.2.11, which sends the file uncompressed.

Fix:

  1. Look for the banner at the top of the app: “GuildPro (new version) is out, you are running (your version).”
  2. Click Install the latest. The app updates and reopens by itself.
  3. If there is no banner, or the update fails, download the current installer from /download and run it.
  4. After the update, click Sync now.

Less likely cause: You are on the current app and the export is over 8 MB even unpacked. There is no setting that fixes this. Report it and say which addon the line names (GuildPro, PvPLedger or MobMetrics). See Get help.

The app does not keep retrying a refused upload. It tries again the next time the game saves the file, so nothing is lost while you update.

The import page shows the too-large message

Symptom: After you click Import on /import, the result box says Import failed with “This export is too large to paste, so nothing was imported.”

Cause: The paste was over the upload limit. Nothing was imported. Your paste stays in the box.

Fix, easiest first:

  1. Use the companion app instead. It compresses the export and uploads it for you. See Install the companion app.
  2. Export less. If you used /gp export all, use /gp export instead, which carries only what is new since you last clicked Mark as pasted.
  3. Export one run at a time. Type /gp, open the Runs tab, pick a run and click Export this run. Paste and import each run separately.

What not to do

Do not click Wipe all data in the addon to make the export smaller unless you are sure everything has already reached the website. Wiping deletes the addon’s stored history for that game account and cannot be undone.
