Understand WoW IQ grades
Learn what a WoW IQ grade means, what feeds it, and where to see it.
WoW IQ grades how a fight or a whole run was played, on a ladder from F to S. It is not a parse: each role is graded on its own job, not on who topped the damage meter. This page is for any player who wants to read a grade.
Where grades appear
- In the companion app: the WowIQ tab reads your combat log and grades each pull and run.
- On the website: graded runs are listed at /runs, with a leaderboard for each dungeon and raid.
Before you start
- Grades are never worked out in game. There is no WowIQ addon; the companion app reads the combat log file after each pull. This works the same on WoW Forever and Classic.
- The app’s grades need a combat log. Type
/combatlogin game, or let the addon turn logging on when you enter an instance. Advanced Combat Logging must be on in the game’s settings, and the app tells you if it is off.
The grade ladder
| Grade | Score |
|---|---|
| Artifact | 100 |
| S+ | 99 |
| S | 96 to 98 |
| A+ / A / A- | 93 to 95 / 89 to 92 / 85 to 88 |
| B+ / B / B- | 80 to 84 / 75 to 79 / 70 to 74 |
| C+ / C / C- | 65 to 69 / 60 to 64 / 55 to 59 |
| D | 40 to 54 |
| F | below 40 |
Grades use item-quality colours: orange for S, purple for A, blue for B, green for C, white for D and grey for F.
How a player’s score is built
A score is a base of up to 90 plus credits of up to 10.
The base is your role’s job done well. Your role is worked out from the fight itself: you are graded as a healer if you healed far more than you hit, and as the tank if you are the one the enemies were attacking.
| Role | What the base measures |
|---|---|
| Tank | Attention (30%), Protection (25%), Mitigation (20%), Survival (15%), Activity (10%) |
| Healer | Output (40%), Efficiency (25%), Survival (20%), Activity (15%) |
| Damage | Output (50%), Survival (30%), Activity (20%) |
Output is measured against the best player doing the same job in that fight.
Credits are the things nobody had to do: interrupts, dispels, crowd control, and healing done by a non-healer. Each extra one is worth a little less than the last, so repeating one action cannot fill the bar.
Because the base stops at 90, damage alone tops out at an A. An S needs utility as well.
How a run’s grade is built
A run on /runs is graded on its totals, not on an average of its pulls.
| Part | Weight | What it measures |
|---|---|---|
| completion | 30% | Bosses killed out of bosses engaged |
| safety | 25% | Deaths compared with the size of the group |
| pace | 25% | Share of the run spent fighting rather than idle |
| effort | 20% | How active players were during each pull |
The group’s credits are added on top. A run that wiped, or left a boss it had engaged, is held at 95 and the run page says so. Clear time is shown and has its own Fastest clears board, but it is not part of the grade.
Read a run page
Open any run from /runs. The top shows the grade, the IQ score, each part as a bar, and the base and credits. Below are a timeline of the run, then The bosses, The pulls, The credit ledger, Preparation, Deaths, Who the mobs went for and The group.
Good to know
- A run uploaded by several people appears once.
- A grade is not rewritten when the scoring changes. The measurements are stored with each run.
- With the top-bar switch on Demo data, /runs shows invented runs, labelled as such. Switch to Live data for real ones.
