WoW Forever professions: cover every one across your guild

Every WoW Forever profession crafts a camp object with its own buff. How a guild covers all twelve, who picks what, and a coverage checklist to share.

In WoW Forever, every profession crafts an object for a shared camp, so a guild that covers all twelve gets every buff. Each player still has 2 primary and 3 secondary professions, capped at 300. The way to cover them all is a simple grid: who has what, which gaps are left, and which alts can fill them.

  • Cooking: at least two cooks, so there is always a campfire
  • Alchemy: Mana Well, and raid consumables
  • Blacksmithing: Sharpening Wheel
  • Enchanting: Enchanted Lute
  • Engineering: Reagent Bot
  • Herbalism: Incense Candle, and herbs for the alchemists
  • Leatherworking: Camp Tent
  • Mining: Lodestone, and ore for the smiths and engineers
  • Skinning: Camp Chair, and leather for the leatherworkers
  • Tailoring: Faction Banner
  • First Aid: first aid kit
  • Fishing: Fish Bowl
  • Each crafter paired with a gatherer who supplies them
  • The grid pinned in Discord, with a name next to every line

Tick a line once someone in the guild has it. Your ticks save in this browser, and the button copies the list for your Discord.

What professions are in WoW Forever?

The same twelve as Classic: nine primary professions and three secondary ones. Each character still takes 2 primary professions plus Cooking, First Aid and Fishing, and the cap is still 300.

What changes is the content. Blizzard has said there are more than 600 new recipes, Waylaid Supplies return, and reaching 300 in a crafting profession gives an account-wide title. Wowhead keeps the details in its Forever professions guides.

What is the camp system?

Every profession crafts a camp object. A Cook builds the campfire, the other professions add their objects to it, and anyone sitting nearby gets buffs for an hour. It’s the reason professions matter to a guild, not just to the person levelling them.

Map of the WoW Forever camp system: Cooking builds the campfire, and each of eleven other professions adds an object with its own buff, such as Alchemy's Mana Well, Mining's Lodestone for attack power and Fishing's Fish Bowl for all stats
What each profession adds to the camp, as described during the beta.

Higher tiers of each object come from Blueprints that drop from dungeon bosses. Expect the numbers to move before and after launch, and check Wowhead before you plan around a specific buff.

How does a guild cover every profession?

Make a grid with the twelve professions down the side, and put at least one name against each, two for Cooking. Then look at the gaps and ask who can fill them, starting with alts.

A grid for a small guild might look like this:

ProfessionMainBackup
CookingEveryone who’ll do it
Alchemy[name][alt]
Herbalism[name]
Mining[name][alt]
…

Three rules keep it working:

Should alts take professions?

Yes. Alts are the easiest way to fill the gaps. A raider’s main might need two combat-friendly professions, but their alt can take Skinning and Leatherworking for the guild’s tent and chair.

The Legacy system helps here. Levelling professions to 150, 225 and 300 earns account-wide Legacy Points, per Wowhead’s Legacy system guide. An alt that levels a profession is earning for the player’s whole account, which makes “could your alt take Mining?” an easier ask. It also belongs in your main and alt policy.

When should players pick their professions?

In the first week, before anyone has spent hours levelling the wrong one. Gathering professions are easy to start on day one. Crafting professions cost materials, so a player who drops one at level 40 throws away a lot of work.

A simple timetable works for most guilds:

WhenWhat to do
Before launchPost the empty grid and ask people what they’d like
Launch weekGatherers start straight away. Crafters claim a line on the grid
First weekendOfficers look at the gaps and ask alts to fill them
Before 9 DecemberCheck every camp object has at least one name

Don’t force anyone into a profession they don’t want. Asking “would anyone take Engineering for the guild?” usually finds a volunteer, especially once people know it earns Legacy Points for their account. If nobody wants it, leave the line empty and try again when alts reach the right level.

Which profession pairings make sense?

Pair a gathering profession with the crafting one it feeds, unless the guild already supplies the materials. Mining with Blacksmithing or Engineering, Herbalism with Alchemy, Skinning with Leatherworking. Enchanting and Tailoring pair well with each other, or with a gatherer for gold.

For pairings by class, there’s a community guide on Wowhead: WoW Forever profession pairings by class. It’s user-submitted, so treat it as one player’s view, but it’s a useful starting point when someone asks what fits their class.

Once the guild has its grid, pairings matter less for each player. If two people have Mining, the third miner can take something else and buy ore from guildmates.

Which professions matter most before the raids?

Alchemy, Cooking and the gatherers that feed them. The first raids open on 9 December, and every raid night will want consumables and a campfire before the pull.

Make sure of three things by then:

  1. More than one cook. If the only cook is ill, there’s no campfire.
  2. An alchemist with the herbs to work. Alchemy without a steady supply of herbs is slow.
  3. Someone farming Blueprints. Higher camp tiers come from dungeon bosses, so your guild dungeon nights double as Blueprint runs.

Which recipes raids will want isn’t known yet, because the raid bosses aren’t announced. Plan for coverage now and specific recipes later.

How do you keep track of who crafts what?

Keep the grid in one pinned post and update it when someone changes professions. Ask for professions in the same place you ask for mains and alts, so officers read one list, not three.

GuildPro doesn’t record professions, so keep the grid in a pinned Discord post. What it does give you is the other half of the question: who is playing which main and which alts. On a Forever guild page, the Guild roster opens with a preliminary roster built from /rostercall, with every person’s main and alts, so you can see who has an alt free for a gathering profession. Use the guild roster explains it, and /rosters shows how signups and rosters fit together.

Professions are one piece of a guild’s first month. The rest is in our WoW Forever guild checklist.

FAQ

How many professions can you have in WoW Forever?

Two primary professions and three secondary ones (Cooking, First Aid and Fishing), the same as in Classic. The skill cap is 300.

What is the camp system in WoW Forever?

Every profession crafts a camp object. A Cook builds the campfire, the other professions add their objects to it, and players sitting nearby get buffs for an hour.

Where do higher camp tiers come from?

From Blueprints that drop from dungeon bosses. See our guide to running Forever's dungeons as a guild.

Do professions count towards the Legacy system?

Yes. Levelling a profession to 150, 225 and 300 earns account-wide Legacy Points, and reaching 300 in a crafting profession also gives an account-wide title.
